OpenSail combines multiple forecast models and data sources to provide the most accurate routing guidance possible.

Weather Models

• GFS (NOAA) — Global Forecast System. 0.25deg resolution, 384h horizon. Updated every 6 hours.
• AIFS (ECMWF) — AI-based forecast. Higher resolution in some regions.
• CMEMS (Copernicus) — Ocean physics and wave models for currents and sea state.
• HRRR (NOAA) — High-Resolution Rapid Refresh for coastal US waters.

Other Data

• Bathymetry — GEBCO 2024 grid for depth-aware routing.
• Land polygons — OpenStreetMap coastline data for land avoidance.
• Nautical charts — NOAA ENC raster tiles.
